Margarida Amaral, PI of the Cystic Fibrosis Research Group and Leader of the Functional Genomics and Proteostasis Group, at Ciências ULisboa, joined the Emily’s Entourage Scientific Advisory Board. 

“I am thrilled to be able to serve on Emily’s Entourage’s Scientific Advisory Board. Together, we can work toward developing innovative treatments for the entire Cystic Fibrosis community”: these were the words proffered by Margarida Amaral by the occasion of her recent joining the Scientific Advisory Board of  Emily’s Entourage – a non-profit association, whose primary mission is to accelerate research to find new treatments and a cure for the final 10% of people suffering from Cystic Fibrosis (CF), including those with more complex genetic mutations: the nonsense mutations.

According to Chandra Ghose, Chief Scientific Officer at Emily’s Entourage having Margarida Amaral on board will be of paramount importance to fulfill the association’s mission because: “Developing breakthroughs for CF starts with understanding this complex disease at the most fundamental level. Dr. Amaral has spent her career working to better understand — and leverage — the pathology of the disease,”. Besides this, Ghose adds that “ Dr. Amaral’s expertise in rare and nonsense mutation research will be an impactful addition to our SAB.”
