Lisboa (Portugal) 23 – 27 July 2018

BioISI organized the Hands-On Workshop on Epithelial Systems: Physiology and Pathophysiology on July 23rd – 27th. We welcomed expert scientists in the Cystic Fibrosis field, including Christiane de Boeck (Leuven, Belgium), Karl Kunzelmann (Regensburg, Germany), Robert Tarran (Chapel Hill, USA), Anthony Kicic (Perth, Australia), Mike Gray (Newcastle, UK), Martin Hug (Freiburg, Germany) and Margarida Amaral (FCUL). This workshop was conducted in partnership with the Basic Science Working Group of the European Society of Cystic Fibrosis and sponsored by Vertex Pharmaceuticals as well as national funds from FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P., on the frame of UID/Multi/04046/2019. The course was aimed at the 11 PhD students of the BioSYS doctoral program (Biological Systems, Functional & Integrative Genomics) and open to 16 international researchers from the UK, Germany, Chile, Hungary Italy, and Spain.

The objective was to show the latest developments in pathology and pathophysiology of epithelial systems, with a special focus on CF diagnosis. BioISI researchers have extensive work in this field, making the Faculty of Sciences an institution with a unique knowledge in Cystic Fibrosis research.
